One of my warmhearted childhood memories was eagerly waiting for each Sunday to arrive so that I could watch the prime time show, “60 minutes”. There is just one more thing I wanted to pass on. It is one of my favorite Andy Rooney quotes “I didn’t get old on purpose. It just happened. If you’re lucky, it could happen to you.” His down to earth attitude appeals to many.

I’m sure that if Andy Rooney had a blog people would be following his every post. His candor is refreshing. Here is a man who is able to find the humor in mundane thing. Google Uses Online Marketing to Introduce Google+ With a David Beckham Interview

In a recent online marketing maneuver Google conducted an interview with international soccer star David Beckham. The central idea behind Google’s interview with Beckham was to introduce Google’s new social media outlet, Google+. Web marketing was a large piece of the interview process.

Google+ incorporates many aspects of social media with their search engine and email capabilities for the average user. In Google+ the user can divide their email contacts into groups, or Circles as Google calls them, which they belong to. The user can also search for and follow businesses, teams, celebrities and news outlets that also have Google+ accounts.

Within your Google+ account you can instant message, video chat, and follow news feeds with posts made by members in your Circles.

The search engine portion of Google is incorporated into their new social media platform too. When a member is signed into Google+ the search engine results picked up are more tailored toward the specific user. Google will return search results that are more related to that user depending on the keywords they search and their relation to the items and people in their Circles.

The interview was organized at Google’s San Francisco office in front of a live audience. Google’s way of introducing the social media side of Google+ was to hold a live stream of the interview with David Beckham on Google+. They uploaded the interview onto YouTube as well. The company incorporated the messaging and video chatting portions of their social media platform into the interview. They took questions from several of their participants across the globe and even linked their London office into a video chat where employees and guest from London could ask David questions.

Through the interview several different topics were discussed, with the first line of questioning dealing with David’s resigning with Major League Soccer club the L.A. Galaxy. David chatted about his reasons for staying in America and why he wanted to sign a new two-year deal with the Galaxy, which made large news in the soccer world, especially in the United States. Some of the other topics he discussed in his interview were his family, living in America, attending the Royal Wedding, his long soccer career, and a new ad he will be in during the Super Bowl.

Cavemen did not take the LIRR to get to work or go to happy hour with their colleagues. They did not watch television, check emails, or play “words with friends.” Nevertheless cavemen could have taken advantage of the services of a modern day marketing firm. Cavemen utilized products and services that could have benefited from a marketing firm or from using Twitter for business purposes. Perhaps cavemen did have their own form of marketing firms but archaeologists have yet to uncover them. For now we can only guess what the caveman marketing business would look like.

So what would a caveman utilize a marketing firm for? Just like contemporary man, cavemen would go to a marketing firm to advertise new products. The wheel could have been popularized much faster if cavemen had a marketing firm to promote the benefits of using the wheel. The wheel would basically sell itself with just a little bit of advertising. Cavemen in the wheel-making industry could have used Twitter for business by Tweeting about how great round wheels are at transporting boulders in comparison to square ones. A marketing firm could also have helped caveman communities reach out to other cavemen about how incredibly useful the wheel is.

Cavemen also could have used a marketing firm to promote their cave paintings. Cave painting was a cornerstone of caveman culture. They told stories and recorded instructions through cave painting. A effective marketing firm could have turned cave painting into a profitable venture for entrepreneurial cavemen. Caveman marketing firms could have turned cave painters into famous artists that other cavemen would envy.

Cavemen probably had no concept of what it meant to be a good salesman. Caveman society revolved around fighting off Komodo dragons, lugging around boulders, and finding a mate. Inject the wherewithal of a modern marketing firm into that scenario and you would have a much more informed society of cavemen. A marketing firm could coordinate smoke signal campaigns to spread news to cave dwellers miles away. This would do incredible things for caveman safety. If a blood thirsty saber tooth tiger was spotted lurking around popular hunting grounds, the caveman marketing firm would help warn others. In the caveman world a marketing firm would serve two purposes as both advertising agency and public safety announcer.

It is sad that we will never know what the world would be like today if cavemen had the ability to use Twitter for business and marketing firms. Perhaps if we ever overcome the obstacles to time travel we can go back and really mess up the history of the world by introducing Twitter and marketing to cavemen. That venture would probably fail because cavemen did not have the internet or money. But if we gave cavemen internet access it would be intriguing to see what they would do with it. We should spend the resources we use for war, espionage, and nuclear weaponry on time travel so we can help cavemen become civil with Twitter and modern marketing.

They became a pop culture phenomena practically overnight thanks to their MTV reality show and now that they’re so famous, no one is really sure why. Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no denying that the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore commands attention when they go anywhere. While they’ve been busy signing endorsement deals for everything from pistachios to formalwear, they’ve been neglecting the serious benefits of good skincare. With so many people enamored by the cast, maybe Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino should consider dropping his endorsement of his official reusable garment/laundry bag and signing on to promote a good moisturizer. In fact, the whole group should change the “L” in GTL to stand for lotion.

For those who don’t know, the cast of MTV’s hit reality show coined and promoted the phrase “GTL,” which stands for gym, tanning, and laundry. According to the likes of Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley, these are the necessary steps to ensuring that you’re looking your most attractive. The cast seems hyped up on the idea of their own flashy appearance. But they seem to be overlooking the long term and only focusing on the here and now.

Despite their focus on physical fitness by hitting the gym and their complexion through tanning, it seems that the long term benefits of skincare have been neglected. But why? A good moisturizing regimen makes a healthier and better looking person. If the cast of The Jersey Shore wants to be fist-pumping in the club well into their thirties (because what else are they qualified to do?) they should want to look their best for as long as possible. The right lotion could protect them from the major damage done by all of the tanning that they indulge in. And after hitting the showers at the end of those trips to the gym, their skin could be dried out and moisture deprived.

Let’s be honest, I find it hard to believe that the cast of MTV’s astonishing sensation of a reality show will ever be able to shed their image. I don’t think that any of them will make a name for themselves beyond the success of the show. But even so, their ridiculous fame that they’ve managed to acquire surely has provided them with a spending limit that would allow them to send their laundry out to be dry cleaned. So why aren’t they focusing on proper skincare habits?

With millions of devout viewers hanging on the actions of the reality show stars, they should be setting a better example and advocating healthier habits. If you ask me, the Pauly D and the gang should ditch at least one of their endorsement each and embrace the idea of supporting a good brand of moisturizer. Because, let’s face it, if they keep up the tanning without any substantial precautionary measures, it will be their own undoing. At this rate, the only commercial spot they’re going to be asked to appear a few years from now in is for beef jerky.

First, you have to set goals; you’re never going to get anymore without knowing where to go. Start vague: are you looking for more visitors to your blog or are you trying to move more inventory? Now, develop a specific social media goal that will lead to solve your general one: maybe you want a big following on Twitter to announce your products. Just be certain that your goal is something you can actually do; we all want to make a trillion more dollars a month, it’s not that realistic.

Now you should select which social media outlets are right for you. If you want to get the word out immediately, would you upload a video on YouTube? No, you would be in a better situation if you were to use a Twitter post. Spend some time to determine all of the outlets and figure out all of their strengths and weakness.

It’s always a smart idea to make a calendar for yourself. Develop all of your updates you want for the month, generally around once a day. And, once you’ve completed your calendar, make sure that you abide by it.

Of course, all this work doesn’t mean much unless you have people to reach out to. While there isn’t enough space to discuss the many tactics for doing this here, just keep in mind that if you’re not working to grow followers, you’re not doing half your job. One last reminder on content; you have to always be engaging your follower base.
